Today at the Historical Materialism Australasia 2012 conference:
I met the prayer group in the lift – a group of hairy young creatures of God and a smiling Imam. Much joking was had.

I was expecting a match report on this one. What’s being discussed these days in Australian historical materialism?

Ah, many many things, especially the upsurge in activism globally, the need to agitate among the armed forces. But I did notice a strong presence of ideal, romantic Marxism – the revolution is still to come and the ‘centre’ may still be found in that increasingly irrelevant peninsula on the western edge of the Eurasian land mass.
