These are in addition to the specific scholarship on Marxism and Religion noted earlier.

Are you aware that you’re probably a race traitor, or at least an egg?

I’ve had all sorts of comments, from unexpected quarters. Andrew Benjamin, at Monash, believes China is simply ‘evil’. A few people at the Society of Biblical Literature (whom I usually respect deeply) have warned me against a treacherous and dangerous China. My mother is always worried that they will keep me there and not let me come home since, as she puts it, they ‘value’ my research into Marxism too much.
An ‘egg’?

Your mom’s comment is the best! (An egg is white on the outside, yellow inside, the opposite of a banana–terms typically used by young first or second generation Chinese Canadians.)

(And of course yellow/Chinese/Asian here really means peasant, or feudalistic, or old-fashioned, and white/caucasian means bourgeois, capitalistic, modern.)
