A few months ago I finished a full draft of Fleshly Readings, but now it is time to check a few references. Not long before Hans Wildberger, a pious, sober and otherwise boring German scholar of the Hebrew Bible offers this gem on Isaiah 11:5. First the translation:
‘Righteousness shall be the girdle of his balls [bemotnayw]; and faithfulness the girdle of his nuts [halatsayw]’
or, as I prefer: ‘The loin-cloth of justice clings to his balls; the underwear of faithfulness to his nuts’.
For our faithful Wildberger this verse is nothing less than a signal of the messiah, indeed that this is the very loin-cloth of the messiah himself (p. 455).

You know, I have this crazy conjectured theory that most of the nationalistic messianisms today are nothing more than the advancement of the ideal male, like for example, Louis Farrakhan naming Barack Obama as the messiah (the ideal “black man”)

But does Obama wear tight undies?

We would have to call Michelle to get that answer.

Or perhaps his buddies at the gym.

Have you considered Cleis Press? They publish a mix of fiction and academic books: http://www.cleispress.com/

I once approached them with ‘Hardcore and the Sublime Song’, since Annie Sprinkle published her ‘Post-porn-modernist’ book with them. Never heard back from them, but maybe it’s worth another shot.

And Deane, I’m sure Fleshly Readings would slot right in next to The Ultimate Guide to Fellatio, vol. 2.
