I’m usually not a great fan of Christmas, especially since all the clan stuff gives me the shits, but this time it will be a bit more enjoyable, especially after the campaign that saw Rage Against the Machine’s ‘Killing in the Name’ make it to number one. Even Lenin’s Tomb got in on the campaign. OK, it’s the UK and it’s just a song, but not a bad one, especially since it finishes with:
Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me (9x)
Motherfucker!!! ugh!!!
Merry Christmas everyone.

I can only surmise that you’re holding a large amount of Sony stock. They’re releasing both RATM’s song and the tv talent show single it was competing against. I remember reading an interview with RATM’s guitarist Tom Morello who said people who claim RATM have no sense of humour have never actually listened to the music.

I knew someone would produce that one: the X-factor song is produced by a Sony subsidiary. Like I said, it’s the UK and it’s just a song, and … to add to that, groups like RATM are one part of the larger alternative scene that functions as the source of the necessary innovation required for capitalism.

Of course VM is right that Sony hold both so Cowell still profits – It would have been better to pick another from an indie label. Nonetheless, I purchased a copy, and RATM and xmas no.1 – that in itself is worth the effort.

I prefer this contradiction, like Kolakowski’s old essay.

Was that in his Stalinist or Popish-Nationalist stage? He’s fun either way.

In between, I do believe.
